Road crashes kill two, injure five

One person was killed and five others were injured as the three-wheeler carrying them fell into a roadside ditch after a bus hit it at Sener Bazar in Kendua upazila yesterday, reports our Netrakona correspondent.
The deceased is Mina Akther, 40, of the upazila.
A case was filed in this connection.
A Feni correspondent adds, an unidentified elderly man died after a truck ran him over on Feni-Maijdee road at Ramnagar in Daganbhuiyan upazila yesterday.
Diploma engineers fast for salary parity with BSc engineers in Ctg

Diploma engineers in Chittagong yesterday observed a token hunger strike to press home their two-point demand.
The demands are removal of disparity in salaries with BSc engineers and ensuring their promotions in due time.
Under the banner of Bangladesh Diploma Engineering Peshajibi-Chatra-Shikkak Sangram Parishad, around 50 to 60 diploma engineers gathered at Chittagong Shaheed Minar to observe the strike held from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm.
Domestic help 'commits suicide'

A teenage domestic help allegedly committed suicide at her employer's house in Bhadra residential area of Rajshahi city yesterday.
The deceased was Monwara Khatun, 13.
Police said they recovered the body hanging from a ceiling hook in her room around 10:00am. The body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station, said no torture marks were found on the body.
Journo dies from snakebite

A journalist died from a snakebite at Biral upazila in Dinajpur on Tuesday night.
The deceased is Md Abdul Mozid, 35, upazila correspondent of the local Daily Uttara and also of Daily Janata. He was an executive member of Biral Press Club
Deceased's family said a snake bit him on the foot while he was washing himself outside home at Dharmapur village.
He died at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
Illegal blood bank sealed off in Ctg

A mobile court sealed off an unauthorised blood bank in Chittagong city yesterday.
The court led by Executive Magistrate Anwar Pasha conducted a drive at Chittagong City Metropolitan Blood Bank near Chittagong city's GEC intersection, and sealed it off for collecting blood and trading those illegally.
The court also fined the blood bank's three directors Tk 1 lakh each, sentenced its two employees to two years' imprisonment and confiscated seven bags of blood.
Drug peddler snatched from police in Sylhet

Cohorts of a drug peddler snatched him from police at Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet on Tuesday.
A team of five policemen held Mushahid Ali with 1kg of marijuana at Eidgah Bazar. When police were walking to Chotul Bazar with handcuffed Mushahid, around 25 miscreants attacked them with sticks and snatched the arrestee away, said Kanaighat police.
A case was filed in this regard.
