Pakistani held with 89.66 lakh Indian rupees at Shahjalal airport

Customs officials arrested a Pakistani national with 89,66,000 Indian rupees at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday.
The arrestee Wahid Ali reached Bangladesh on a flight of Emirates Airlines around 09:00am from Dubai, said Kazi Iraj Ishtiak, assistant commissioner of customs. The officials recovered the foreign currency from a biscuit container after searching his suitcase.
Boy punched to death in capital

A 15-year-old shop employee died after being punched in the chest by his fellow at Mouchak Market in the capital.
The victim Abdur Rahman, was a shop employee at the market. Quoting witnesses, victim's cousin Md Arif said Sobuj, 15, a nearby readymade garment shop employee punched Rahman in the chest around 4:30pm over a trivial matter, leaving him unconscious.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
Teenager drowns in pond in Ctg

A teenager drowned in a pond in Khwaja Road area of Chittagong city yesterday afternoon.
The deceased was Md Shukkur, 14, son of Md Absar of the area.
Chandgaon police said Shukkur, who was an epilepsy patient, drowned while bathing in the pond.
Locals rushed him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Elderly man dies in fire

A sexagenarian was burnt to death at his mess in Tin Puler Matha area of Chittagong city yesterday afternoon.
The deceased is Kamrul Hasan, of Boalkhali upazila, owner of a cloth shop.
Kamrul was asleep when the fire originated from a gas cylinder at his one-room mess housed in Motaleb Market and damaged valuables, worth Tk 50,000, said fire service officials. Fire fighters from Nandankanon Fire Station doused the fire.
Kamrul was declared death at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Domestic help 'commits suicide'

A domestic help allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her employer's residence in Rangunia upazila of Chittagong early yesterday.
Shoma Das, 18, of the upazila, worked at Babul Ghosh's house.
Being informed by Babul, Rangunia Police recovered the hanging body from her room. Neither Shoma's family nor Babul could ascertain the reason behind the suicide.
The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
PRAB forms new committee

The 29-member working committee of Public Relations Association of Banks (PRAB) was formed with Md Ataur Rahman, executive vice president of Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd, as the president on Thursday.
Md Moniruzzaman Tipu, senior assistant vice president of NCC Bank Ltd, was made the general secretary and Md Abdul Khaleque, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Development Bank Ltd, the finance secretary. The committee was formed to develop professional efficiency and coordination.
Man 'kills' wife for dowry

A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Harikhali in Terokhada upazila of Khulna on Friday afternoon.
Kona, 26, daughter of late Hemayet Sheikh of Kodla in Terokhada, was married off to Abdul Hakim, 35, son of Sher Ali, six years ago.
Kona's brother Sirazul filed a case against six, including Hakim. Terokhada police arrested Kona's uncle-in-law Shokor Mallick Friday night, said Officer-in-Charge Sk Anwar Hossain.
