Balloon trader loses legs in gas cylinder explosion in capital

A balloon trader lost both his legs in a gas cylinder explosion yesterday at Hasnabad of Keraniganj, on the outskirts of the capital.
The victim, Mohammad Masum, 23, was pumping gas inside balloons at his home at Hasnabad when the explosion occurred.
“The victim was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and then to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation,” said Shakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Police Station.
Body of autistic boy recovered

Police recovered the body of an autistic boy from a water body at Diyabari in the capital's Mirpur yesterday morning.
The deceased, Momin, 16, son of Fazlur, was a resident of Mirpur-1.
Quoting Fazlur, police said Momin went outside home for a bath on Saturday and did not return.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
National University publishes degree pass course results

The final results of degree pass course examinations of 2011 under National University (NU) were published on Monday night with a pass rate of 74.72 percent.
A total of 143,787 students out of 192, 447 passed the examinations, said a NU press release.
NU also announced the results of the first year and second year terminal examinations with the pass rate of 90.50 and 93.57 respectively.
The results will be available on www.nubd.info and www.nuadmission.info.
2 held with 10 disassembled guns

Police yesterday arrested two men and seized 10 disassembled guns from their possession at Alirgaon in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet.
The arrested are Shahab Uddin, 50, of Golapganj upazila; and Abdur Razzaque, 25, of the same upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted an auto-rickshaw, by which the duo were travelling in, before Gowainghat College, said Gowainghat police.
Man arrested in Ctg over murder

Police arrested an alleged mugger, who allegedly killed Jashim Uddin on Monday, from Sholoshahar in Chittagong city early yesterday.
The arrestee is Suman alias Picchi, 20.
Suman and his cohort Rana stabbed Jashim, a garage worker, in the city as he tried to resist them when they were snatching his belongings.
Rana was arrested on Monday and the same day he gave his confessional statement before a Chittagong court.
