JBFH giving free treatment to 4 Rana Plaza survivors

Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital in the capital has been providing free treatment to four Rana Plaza collapse survivors who also need regular psychotherapy.
At a press conference at the hospital yesterday, JBFH administration also informed that there were many other survivors of the tragedy who did not receive complete treatment.
“Many of the injured will be able to work again if they are given adequate care,” said JBFH Chairman Md Jonaid Shafiq.
296 SIs promoted to inspectors

Some 296 sub-inspectors have been promoted to inspectors and posted at different police units, said a press release from the Police Headquarter yesterday.
The inspectors have been asked to take release letters by June 22 to join their new postings.
Dr Mamun new chairman, Dr Farid general secretary of BPA

Dr Abdullah Al Mamun and Dr Md Farid Uddin have been elected chairman and general secretary of Bangladesh Physiotherapy Association (BPA) respectively.
Dr Md Shafiullah Pradhan has been elected vice-chairman of the 27 member committee of BPA, said a press release.
The election was held at the Bangladesh Institute of Health Science in the capital on Tuesday. BPA's new website www.bd-bpa.org was also launched at the event.

Man held over swindling of Tk 5cr

Police yesterday arrested the managing director of Five Standard Multipurpose, a local organisation working on giving loan, at Kadamtoli in the capital on charge of swindling consumers of Tk 5 crore.
The arrested is Shahidul Islam Monir.
Earlier, Swapna Begum, a field level worker of the organisation, filed the case against four people, including Monir.
Six arrested in capital, Ctg

Police arrested six youths and seized a firearm and ammunition from their possession in the capital and Chittagong city yesterday.
In Dhaka, Md Jahangir, a local Jubo League leader, and Md Kalam were arrested with eight bullets and a magazine at a house in Balur Math area of Kamrangirchar, said police.
In Chittagong city's Chaktai Bridge area, Bakalia police arrested four alleged muggers -- Abu Monsur, Md Kalu Mia, Md Ershad and Md Kobir -- with a locally made light gun.
Two held with Indian sarees in Ctg

Police arrested two people with 563 smuggled Indian sarees, worth about Tk 5.63 lakh, on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on Wednesday night.
Police arrested Abu Taher, 65, and Amir Hossain, 35, both of Feni, after raiding the microbus carrying them in Foujdarhat area.
Pakistani man held with Indian rupees

Customs officials arrested a Pakistani national with around 41 lakh Indian rupees and 85 cartons of foreign cigarettes at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday.
Sabakat Ali Khan arrived in Dhaka by a flight of Emirates Airlines from Dubai, said Ehteshamul Haque, senior additional superintendent of Armed Police Battalion.
The customs officials detected the rupees while scanning Sabakat's luggage, he said.
Nielsen organises blood donation camp

The Nielsen Company (Bangladesh) Limited, a market research company, organised a blood donation camp at its head office in the capital's Dhanmondi yesterday.
Nielsen associates participated in the voluntary donation campaign facilitated by the Quantum Foundation, which collected 40 bags of blood, said a press release.
The blood will be donated to children suffering from thalassemia.
The programme was a part of Nielsen Global Impact Day.
Four Rohingyas held at airport

Four Rohingya nationals were arrested with fake passports in the capital's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while they were trying to catch an Etihad Airways flight to Saudi Arabia early yesterday.
They are Nure Salam, Md Harun-ar-Rashid, Siraj and Harun.
During interrogation, they admitted that each of them paid Tk 2-4 lakhs to the brokers for the fake passports, said Airport Armed Police Battalion officials.
FOWA organises charity fair today

Foreign Office Wives' Association (FOWA) will organise a charity fair today at the state guesthouse Padma to support the victims of the nine-storey Rana Plaza collapse.
Lots of different items will be on sale at the fair, which will begin at 10:00am and conclude at 7:00pm. There will also be attractive prizes to be won in a raffle draw.
Sale proceeds will be donated to the victims of the Savar tragedy, said a press release.
