JU gets new proctor
JU Correspondent
Prof Muzibur Rahman of statistics department took charge as new proctor of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday, said JU Registrar Abu Bakar Siddque.
The university's syndicate will decide soon, for how long Prof Muzibur will stay in the post, he said.
On February 2, Shohel Ahmed, former proctor of JU, sent a resignation letter to the authorities concerned citing personal reasons. His resignation was accepted on Monday.
Death penalty for killers of madrasa student demanded

Locals yesterday formed a human chain on Narayanganj Press Club premises demanding arrest and capital punishment of the killers of Madrasa student Sagar Hossain.
Golum Mohammad alias Gullu is the prime suspect in the murder case.
Sagar's mother Beauty Begum said Gullu and his gang were firing on their rivals during a clash in Sulimpara rail line area on May 10.
During the skirmish, a stray bullet hit Sagar, student of Baitun Nur Islamia Madrasa.
Youth stabbed to death in Ctg

A youth was stabbed to death in Anwara upazila of Chittagong early yesterday.
The deceased is Md Tarek Aziz, 22.
Quoting the victim's family, Anwara police said some four youths went to Tarek's house at Purbo Baria and stabbed him indiscriminately with a knife.
Tarek died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said police, adding that the incident might have occurred over previous enmity. Police picked up Tarek's neighbour Md Alamgir, 23, for interrogation.
Elephant tramples girl to death

A girl was killed as a wild elephant trampled her in Halua Ghona area of Satkania upazila in Chittagong yesterday.
The victim was Hamida, 10. Her brother and two sisters were also injured in the incident. The injured were admitted to a local heath complex.
Police said Hamida died on the spot after being stepped on by the animal when it attacked their house around 3:00am.
Youth killed, 3 hurt in Khulna clash

A youth was killed and three people were injured in a clash between two groups over establishing dominance in Kashemnagar of Khulna city on Monday night.
The deceased was Abu Sayeed, 22, son of Abu Howlader of the area.
Sayeed's brother Shamim had an altercation with one Suman and his brothers over a trifling matter. Later, the two groups – equipped with hammers, rods and sharp weapons – attacked each other, said Kotwali police.
Fire at Darul Ihsan University
Unb, Dhaka
A fire broke out at Darul Ihsan University in Dhanmondi area of the capital yesterday morning.
Fire service sources said the fire originated from the generator on the ground floor of the six-storey building of the private university at about 10:40am.
Local people had put out the flame before the fire fighters rushed to the spot.
Medical reporters' association formed

Bangladesh Medical Reporters' Association was formed yesterday with an eleven-member committee at a meeting in the capital.
Md Aowrangojeb Sajib of Bangla daily Bangladesh Pratidin and Aminul Islam Babu of the Daily Jugantor were selected its president and general secretary respectively for 2013-14.
The association is a platform of journalists who cover news at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital.
