IU student killed in road crash

A student of Islamic University (IU) was killed in a road accident at Kaliganj upazila town of Jhenidah yesterday afternoon.
The deceased, Anup Biswas, 22, was a second year student of English department. He hailed from the upazila.
An earth-laden tractor hit Anup's bicycle from behind near Neemtala bus stand, injuring him seriously. He died on the way to Jessore Medical College Hospital. Kaliganj police sent the body to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
'Mugger' shot in capital

An alleged mugger was shot and injured as police opened fire on his gang in the capital's Kakrail area yesterday evening.
Police detained Mohammed Sujon, 21, of Keraniganj, with a bullet wound on his arm, and two of his cohorts while the other managed to escape.
Having been informed that the gang was snatching valuables from pedestrians, Ramna police went to the area. They opened fire on the miscreants as they tried to escape on their microbus. They also seized the microbus and two knives, said the police.
10 Jamaat-Shibir men held in Rajshahi, Ctg

Police arrested eight activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, pro-Jamaat-e-Islami student organisation, at a forest in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong yesterday for allegedly plotting subversive activities.
They are Md Jewel, Md Rubel, Md Faruk, Arif Hasan, Imam Hossain, Md Arafat, Akbar Hossain and Mosarraf. A case was lodged with Sitakunda Police Station
Meanwhile in Rajshahi city, Rapid Action Battalion members arrested two Jamaat activists, including Mamunur Rashid Dalim, president of ward 6 unit, with a big blood-stained scissor from their residence at Bakir Mor on Wednesday.
Rab members handed them over to Boalia police.
University design contest registration deadline April 15

The deadline for registration in "Inter University Design Contest" has been extended till April 15.
Bangladeshi Systems Change Advocacy Network and Engineering Students Association of Bangladesh will jointly organise the contest with an aim of a universal accessible public transport system for the people depend on wheelchairs.
The contest may begin from April 25 with a group stage round while field trip and grooming session from May 3 and "grand finale" on May 10 in Dhaka, says a press release.

Obituary
Our Correspondent, Kurigram
Heeramohan Roy, a freedom fighter and president of Rajarhaat Press Club, passed away in Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Wednesday after prolonged illness. He was 67.
He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
He was cremated with state honour at Ratirum vilage in Rajarhaat upazila of Kurigram yesterday.
