New beginnings
Funerals are sad affairs. The downcast eyes and deadpan stares, the air of finality as even the winds decide to grind to a standstill and the clouds gather in silent requiem. But look around you. For every funeral, we have a dozen weddings, scores of babies taking their first breath of sanitised air and a hundred others professing their love for each other in rushed whispers.
This is RS's funeral. But it's not the end of the world.
The torch burning steadily for the last 22 years, sometimes brightly, other times with a dim persistence, is to be passed down to a newcomer, a fresh face in the print media, complete with dreams of being bigger, better and louder.
When news of RS's departure broke, the blow was alleviated by the news that we wouldn't be completely leaving our readers. In its place comes Shout, a publication designed to cater to everything you can possibly think of, from mid-July. Imagine RS but more pages and thousands of new possibilities. A place where you can come and relax and see your opinions getting heard. With Star Campus singing its swan song last Sunday, Shout plans to incorporate content from both the weeklies, complete with a fresh outlook and a new voice: a voice without restraint, urging us all to take part. There will be entertainment, and hangouts, and the serious and funny sides of life, love and everything in between.
Need to vent? Head on over to Shout's Facebook page and talk to us. Have a brilliant idea no one's willing to listen to? We are. Let us know because that's what Shout is all about -- getting your voice out there and getting heard.
This is an invitation for you. RS may have set sail for the final time but the foghorn's sounding in the distance, calling everyone aboard a new voyage, to a horizon that's not yet been discovered and waters not yet treaded. So come aboard and take this new ride with us. We guarantee you, the view will be breathtaking.
