Murderer awarded life term RI in Pabna
A court here has convicted a man and sentenced him to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a murder case. The lifer, Sujit Kumar of Iswardi upazila, was tried in absentia. The court also fined him Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer six months more RI.
According to the prosecution, Sujit Kumar killed his neighbour Hekim at Muladuli bazaar in the upazila on February 8, 1996.
After examining the records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Badsha Alamgir pronounced the verdict Thursday.
In another trial, a man was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment by another court here in a case.
The court also fined the convict, Siddique of Sadar upazila, Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer six months RI more.
The case, in brief, was that Siddique raided the house of Abul Quasem of Radhanagar Mathpara area in Sadar upazila on May 1, 1999.
A case was filed with police against five people including Siddique.
Four other accused were acquitted as allegations brought against them were not proved for lack of witnesses.
First class magistrate M Suratuzzaman handed down the verdict after examining the records and witnesses Saturday.
