Mother Language Day programmes in Ctg
CHITTAGONG, Jan 28: An extensive programme begins from February 1 in the city to celebrate the International Mother Language Day amidst much enthusiasm and new zeal, reports BSS.
International Mother Language Day and Ekush Mela Parishad in collaboration with Chittagong City Corporation this year have drawn up the programmes in the backdrop of the proclamation by the UNESCO as International Mother Language Day.
The nation celebrates the day as 'Amar Ekushey' since 1953, marking the supreme sacrifices of the valiant sons of the soil who embraced martyrdom for the mother tongue and subsequently earned a glaring recognition by the world community.
A 101-member Amar Ekushey Celebration Committee comprising cultural, social and professional personalities has been formed with Chittagong City Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury as its Chairman while Dr Anupom Sen and Journalist Nasiruddin Chowdhury were made its Executive Chairman and Secretary General respectively.
The month-long programmes included international book fair, discussions, musical soiree, poetry recitation, staging of dramas, exhibition of films and photographs, drawing and painting competitions.
