MKA's comment lambasted
Leaders of Gonoforum and Nagorik Oikya yesterday demanded resignation of Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir for his comment regarding the collapse of a building at Savar on the outskirts of the capital.
On Wednesday, the home minister said shaking of the nine-storey building by pro-hartal picketers might be one of the reasons for its collapse.
Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain and Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman questioned how the minister made such “irresponsible” comment before an investigation into the incident.
Terming the “Rana Plaza” incident a killing, they also questioned whether the home minister was mentally sound.
They were speaking at a press conference in the capital's Jatiya Press Club.
Dr Kamal said, “He [Muhiuddin Khan] has lost eligibility of being a minister.”
Rule of law is not present in the country as the government has failed to perform its due responsibility, he said.
Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member MK Anwar yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her party people were responsible for the collapse of the building. He was speaking at a doa mahfil at the BNP's Naya Paltan central office organised to mourn the deceased.
