Man shot dead, 20 bullet-hit in Comilla
Three people have been killed and 38 others were injured in clashes in Comilla, Jessore and Netrakona.
A man was killed and 20 others were bullet-injured in a clash between two rival groups of villagers at Shahpur in Titas upazila of Comilla yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Delwar Hossain Delu, 40, resident of the village, reports UNB.
Officer in-charge of Titas police station Nabi Hossain said there had been a longstanding dispute between two groups of locals -- one loyal to BNP-backed former union parishad chairman Faruk and another to Awami League-backed Shah Alam Shanti -- over establishing dominion at Shahpur.
At about 4.00am yesterday, both the groups equipped with firearms and sharp weapons took position in the area and exchanged 30-40 gunshots, triggering a clash.
The clash that continued for about three hours left 20 people bullet-injured on both sides.
Of them, critically injured Delu, belonging to the Faruk group, was rushed to Gouripur Hospital in Doudkandi upazila where the attending doctor declared him dead.
In Jessore, a man was killed and eight others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over a piece of disputed land in Chowgachha upazila on Sunday morning, reports our correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Mominul Islam, 37, son of Mohsin Ali of Kadlia village.
Mohammad Rofiqul Islam, officer in-charge at Chaugachha police station, said there was a longstanding conflict between the men of Khokon-Kashim group and Bappi group over the land at the village.
As a sequel to the conflict, the rival groups attacked each other with lethal weapons and bombs, leaving Mominul dead on the spot and at least eight injured.
The deceased was a member of Kashim group, said the OC.
Police arrested one Al Amin, a member of Bappi group, in this connection. The arrestee sustained injuries during the clash, he said.
Away in Netrakona, a youth was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash over a football match at Boali village in Khaliajuri upazila on Saturday.
Deceased Mohon Mia, 22, was son of Raisuddin of the village, reports our correspondent.
Police said two rival groups -- one led by Raisuddin and another by Masud of the village -- attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving at least 11 from both sides injured at around 8:00pm following an altercation over the game.
Of them, Mohon and his father were sent to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital in critical condition, where Mohon died after sometime.
