Man held with Rs 45 lakh at airport

Customs officials detained a man with 45 lakh Indian rupees at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the customs authority charged the detainee, Mohammad Sajjad Hossain, 35, after he landed on Dhaka airport around 5:00pm and recovered the rupees, said Humayun Hafiz, a customs superintendent.

Sajjad had travelled to Karachi in Pakistan on May 13 and was returning via Bangkok in a Biman Bangladesh Airlines' flight.

He claimed that an unknown man at Karachi handed over the luggage to him, and another unidentified person was to receive it at Dhaka.

Sajjad will be taken to the Airport Police Station by Wednesday night.
