Magnet smuggling: Six Indians arrested at Bagerhat
BAGERHAT, Jan 14: Police today arrested six Indian nationals, who are alleged members of an organised group involved in smuggling of 'pillar-magnet,' reports UNB.
The arrested are identified as Bivuti Biswas, 46, Dijendra Mallik, 62, Sushanta Tribedi, 45, Tapan Kumar Sarker, 54, Biswasanath Laskar, 38, and Sajal Chowdhury, 26. All are inhabitants of various thanas of 24 Pargana district in West Bengal.
DB police searched a microbus in front of the district police office at noon and caught them.
The Indian nationals entered Bangladesh through Benapole border on January 12 and were residing at a hotel in the town.
When asked, the arrested persons admitted their involvement in smuggling out the magnet and said they sell those to Rainbow Company in India after collecting from Bangladesh.
A case was filed with local police station and the arrested were handed over to them.
