Live Kitchen
Live Kitchen is a new food venture that has joined the mushrooming restaurant crew. And we all know that no one opens up anything near Banani 11 unless they are quite serious about what they are doing. This, as well as a few Facebook photos on my newsfeed that showed friends at Live Kitchen with umbrellas floating over their heads, enticed me to go check it out myself.
Ambience
The space is quite small, with not too many tables. The name "Live Kitchen" comes from the open kitchen, where you can see the chefs at work while you wait for your food. As a result, the kitchen is nice and shiny, and all the food is cooked fresh right there.
The knowledge that food is being prepared on-the-spot is a refreshing change and quite comforting in this age of adulterated food and dodgy restaurant kitchens. Live Kitchen has already caused quite a stir with its unique decor which features black umbrellas that cover the ceiling.
The biggest drawback in terms of ambience has to be the lack of air conditioning. Although there are powerful stand fans, the combination of heavy, oily food and the heat and the humidity is not very pleasant. People tend to eat and leave quickly as a result.
Food
The menu consists of burgers, different stir-fried bowls of rice, noodles and curry, fries, "chitchats", charcoal grills and drinks.
We tried the Cheesy Delight burger, which is listed under Live Kitchen's Specials, and loved it. The meat was juicy, there was an abundance of cheese both inside the patty and outside of it, and there were also crispy onion rings on my plate which made me very happy.
The Exotic Live Shakes, which come in mouth-watering flavours like Snickers, Dark Fantasy, Peanut Butter, Oreos and a few other much-loved candy brands, are quite filling and they do not sting on the flavours. The grilled chicken wings also had a very interesting flavour. All in all, the food at Live Kitchen did not disappoint.
Value for money
Live Kitchen's food definitely scores a lot of points in value for money. The most expensive items on the menu only cost Tk 250, and the portions are sufficient to fill your stomach.
You can't get a lot of good burgers in Dhaka for such low prices. In comparison, the shakes are a bit on the pricey side, but one has to consider the price of the Snickers that goes into their shakes. The prices are perfect for the hungry students of the nearby universities, or a team of hardcore Banani Road 11 shoppers who need an eating break to reenergise.
To sum up...
When you are hungry, with a group of friends, and looking for some place with a good environment without the hefty price tag, Live Kitchen is the way to go. The food is good enough to satisfy your stomach, so drop by Live Kitchen when you are craving a wholesome, quality meal that won't empty your pockets.
