Lightning kills 5 in C'nawabganj

Five people including a student were killed and three others injured as lightning struck them in different areas in the town and in Sadar, Gomostapur and Shibganj upazilas yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Mikail, 15, son of Sajjad Ali of Chandlai, also class nine student at Namoshankarbati High School, Omar Ali, 18, son of Shariful Islam of Pandit Para in town, Zohrul Islam, 20, son of Saiful Islam of Atahar village under sadar upazila, Mohammad Muslim, 40, son of Israil Sarkar of Baburghone village in Gomostapur upazila and Mohammad  Shamim, 22, son of Asabul Haque of Chaknarendra village in Shibganj upazila.
Among the injured, Rinku, 15, son of Lutfar Rahman of Chandlai was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
Quoting family members, Dr. Shafiqul Islam of Sadar Hospital said, lightning struck Mikail, Omar, Rinku, Ruli and Tuktuki at around 1:45 pm when they were collecting mangoes at an orchard in Chandlai area of the  town. Locals rushed them to Sadar Hospital where on duty doctor declared Mikail and Omar dead.
Lightning hit  Zohrul Islam in Atahar area in Sadar  upazila when he was returning to  village home from Nayagola in the town. Locals took him to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Lightning killed Mohammd Muslim when he was plucking mango at an orchard at around 1:30 pm at Bompur of Gomostapur upazila.
Lightning killed Shamim when he was returning home from a mango orchard after collecting mangoes around 1:30 pm, villagers said.
