Lead-contaminated turmeric powder

Recently a news published in The Daily Star stating that there is high level of lead in Pran turmeric powder has drawn my attention. The experimental results of the USA's Food & Drug Administration, the New York Health Department and private laboratory showed excessive amount of lead (48ppm) in the Pran turmeric powder. But Pran said that there is no evidence of such claim, which is quite contradictory.
High toxicity in food has grave consequences on human health. If Pran turmeric powder really contains high level of lead, the government should ban this product in the local market immediately.
