YHRI-Bangladesh organised workshop on youth empowerment

The Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) Bangladesh Chapter organised a day-long workshop titled “Empowering Youth through Volunteerism, Peace & Human Rights Education” in partnership with the Commonwealth Youth Human Rights & Democracy Network, Center for Human Rights Studies CHRS, and London College of Legal Studies (South). The workshop was held on 12 August 2018 at London College of Legal Studies (South), Dhaka. A total of 40 law students participated in the workshop.

Mr. Abdullah Al Noman, Director Programme, Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) Bangladesh Chapter, moderated the workshop. Mr. Justice A F M Abdur Rahman, Former Judge, High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh was present as chief guest in the closing ceremony of the workshop.  The workshop’s closing ceremony was presided by Barrister Khaled Hamid Chowdhury, Head of Laws, London College of Legal Studies (South). Barrister Tanjib Rashid Khan, Faculty Member, London College of Legal Studies (South); Ms. Shahreen Tilottoma, Partnership Engagement Coordinator, Commonwealth Youth Human Rights & Democracy Network, talked in the closing ceremony of the workshop as the distinguished guests.

Mr. Muhammad Farhadul Islam, Coordinator, Center for Human Rights Studies CHRS; Mr. Mohammad Golam Sarwar, Lecturer, Department of Law, University of Dhaka; Ms. Farzana Wahid Shayan, Musician, Singer and Human Rights Activist, conducted different sessions in the workshop as the resource persons.

The workshop aimed to teach the youth about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), and inspire them to become advocates for tolerance and peace. The workshop brought law students together and facilitated the discussion concerning the importance of role of the youth in civic engagement, volunteerism, and peace and human rights education.
