IO narrates killing incident

The second and last investigation officer of the Bishwajit Das murder case yesterday narrated before a Dhaka court how a group of Jagannath University students killed Bishwajit Das in December last year.
Bishwajit, 24, proprietor of Amantron Tailors, was hacked to death allegedly by activists of Jagannath University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League while he was going to his shop during a road blockade programme of BNP-led opposition on December 9.
Tajul Islam, an inspector of Detective Branch of Police and the last IO of the case, gave his deposition before the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 of Dhaka.
The tribunal fixed October 1 for next hearing of the case. On the day, the defence will cross-examine Tajul.
Tajul in his statement said he scrutinised the case docket taken from Sub-Inspector Mahbubul Alam, the first IO of the case. “I have collected video footage from electronic media and photographs from newspapers and matched those with pictures of the arrestees and fugitives,” he said.
The IO told the court that some of the accused hit Bishwajit with machetes and some with iron rods killing the victim. He also narrated how the murderers were dressed during the incident. The IO submitted a video footage and several copies of newspapers that published different news items on different dates regarding the incident. Upon completion of his investigation, Tajul found 21 people involved in the murder and submitted the charge sheet on March 5 showing 60 people as prosecution witnesses.
