Kishoreganj BNP factions clash at 29 Minto Rd
Two rival factions of the Kishoreganj BNP scuffled on the Leader of the Opposition's official residence premises in the city last night witnesses said, reports UNB.
They said the two groups - one led by Maj (retd) Akhteruzzaman MP and another by Majibur Rahman Manju MP, district BNP convenor- exchanged hot words at about 8:10 pm soon after Khaleda Zia had left 29 Minto Road, bringing allegations against each other of violating party discipline.
Maj Akhter allegedly assaulted Golam Mostafa who claimed himself as BNP president of Kotiadi thana. Mostafa also tried to retaliate.
Majibur Rahman Manju said Maj Akhter had made statements at Kotiadi against party discipline threatening to shoot local leaders if stood against him (Maj. Akhter).
The anti-Akhter group filed a general diary with Kotiadi thana on Monday against Akhter.
The Manju faction, along with local BNP leaders Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan, Majibul Huq Chunnu, Golam Mostafa and JCD leader Shariful Rahman Badal, came to Khaleda and complained against Akhter.
But she referred them to BNP secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan to deal with the matter. Bhuiyan assured them of looking into the matter.
When contacted, Akhter told UNB that Golam Mostafa was claiming himself as president illegally.
Akhter further said he became angry with Mostafa as he had misbehaved with him (Akhter) and made contradictory statements at the opposition leader's official residence.
