Khaleda trying her best to save Jamaat: Muhith
The opposition leader [Khaleda Zia] is trying her best to save the "militant and terrorist outfits" Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said yesterday.
He said her act went against the interests of the country, and it was an enmity with the people. The minister also said Jamaat-Shibir's activities were making Hefazate Islam Bangladesh, a radical Islamist group, violent.
He made the remarks at the inaugural ceremony of the 513rd branch, 45th in Sylhet, of the state-run Rupali Bank at the Medina market in Sylhet city.
Muhith also spoke of the Hall-Mark loan scam with Sonali Bank and criticised those who were making "unnecessary and loud outcry over the issue".
He said this was the biggest scam in Bangladesh but it was nothing that grave. Frauds occur everywhere in the world, and it happened in Bangladesh too, he said.
The minister said the Hall-Mark managing director (MD) was in jail, he would be punished, and the money would be reclaimed.
Muhith also said Bangladesh's economy was now at its best in history.
