Kamaruzzaman verdict any day

The proceedings of trial into war crimes charges brought against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman concluded on Tuesday and the case is now waiting for verdict.

The International Crimes Tribunal-2, which is dealing with the charges, may deliver the verdict any day.

"We are keeping the case as a CAV [Curia Advisari Vult, a Latin legal term meaning the verdict could be delivered any time]," Tribunal-2 Chairman Justice Obaidul Hassan said on completion of the trial proceedings Tuesday.

On June 4 last year, the tribunal indicted Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Kamaruzzaman on seven charges which include murder and torture of unarmed civilians and complicity in other crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

Eighteen prosecution witnesses, including the investigation officer, of the case testified. Five people testified for Kamaruzzaman.
