Jubo League leader killed in road accident
Two people, including the president of Sirajganj district Jubo League, were killed and five others were injured in separate accidents around the country yesterday, reports UNB.
Ishtiaq Ahmed Alok, 40, president of the Sirajganj Jubo League unit was killed in a road accident at Tangail in the early hours yesterday on his way back home from Dhaka after attending the wedding ceremony of the Home Minister's son.
Family and police sources said Ishtiaq died on the spot and his six companions were injured seriously when a speeding truck dashed into his micro bus standing near the Tangail bus stand at 3 am.
Police brought the body of Alok to his home and sent the five wounded to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a serious condition.
Home Minister Mohammad Nasim attended his namaj-e-janaza and burial at Rahmatganj graveyard in Tangail after Asr prayers.
Meanwhile, a young man was killed by a bus in a tragic mishap in Chapainawabganj yesterday morning, reports UNB.
Witnesses said Saidur Rahman, 22, of Rail Bagan in the town, was run down by a Shibganj-bound bus in front of the Sonali Bank at Barogheria in the town at about 8 am.
He was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he died at about 11 am.
The driver managed to flee with his vehicle.
In yet another incident in the city, locals foiled a bid to kidnap a female schoolteacher from in front of Udayan Cinema Hall Sunday night, catching the two kidnappers red-handed.
Police said the three goons - Amanat Ali, Jamshed and Abdul Aziz - waylaid the homebound rickshaw of Zerina Khatun, 24, a teacher of Nayagola KG School, and tried to abduct her. She was returning alone from Rajshahi.
Zerina filed a case.
