JS body stresses role of PIB to improve quality of journalism
The Jatiya Sangsad Standing Committee on the Ministry of Information yesterday asked Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) to infuse more dynamism and play an effective role in improving the standard of newspapers and raising efficiency of the working journalists.
The advice came at a meeting of the standing committee held at the Sangsad Bhaban here with its chairman Abul Kalam Azad in the chair, said a PID handout.
The meeting discussed the activities of PID including training, research, publication and feature programme.
The meeting emphasised the need for expanding the terms of reference of the PIB aimed at improvement of the standard of journalism in the country.
The PIB should expedite the implementation of the initiative to introduce diploma course on journalism at PIB, the meeting underscored.
Directives were given at the meeting for taking necessary steps to formulate Bangladesh Press Institute Act, implement the programmes undertaken for improving the standard of newspapers published from Chittagong and journalism in Chittagong Hill Tracts and give appointments against the vacant positions of PIB.
Committee members Sultan Muhammad Mansur Ahmed and Shaheen Monwara Haque attended the meeting. Information Secretary M Akmal Hossain, PIB Director General and concerned high officials were present.
