JCD demands punishment of killers

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD),the student wing of opposition BNP, brought out a procession and held a rally on the Dhaka University campus yesterday demanding exemplary punishment to the killers of Nikunja Bihari Devnath.

Devnath, a Joint Secretary of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Ministry, was stabbed to death by a gang of muggers near the Jagannath Hall of DU on January 11.

Addressing the rally at Aparajeyo Bangla, the JCD leader held the ruling party-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) cadre responsible for the killing.

They said the university campus is now a safe haven of criminals and accused the university authorities of failing to make it free from criminal activities.

JCD leaders expressed grave concern over the increasing trend of criminal activities on the campus lately.

Among others, acting president of JCD Monjur Elahi, Munsi Bazlul Basit Anju, Forhad Hossain Azad and Manir Hossain addressed the rally.
