Jamaat men torture BCL activist, resist police

Police faced resistance during their drive to rescue a BCL man abducted by Jamaat activists at Chondidasgati village under Sirajganj Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
Jamaat men picked up BCL activist Md Uzzal Hossain from his house at the village at around 11:00am, confined to the house of one Ishaque Ali and beat him up.
Being informed by victim's family, police went to the village around 11:30am and launched a drive to rescue Uzzal. But Jamaat activists along with the villagers cordoned off the law enforcers and forced them to leave the village.
“In the face of strong resistance, we gave up the drive,” officer in-Charge Md Rofikul Islam of Sirajganj police station said, adding that the Jamaat men later freed Uzzal.
