Indigenous artistes perform at cultural programme
Indigenous artistes rendered traditional and indigenous songs with dance sequences at a cultural programme held in Haluaghat, a frontier upazila of the district Saturday.
Organised by Boalmara CDSP Child Sponsorship Programme at its auditorium, the artistes enthralled the audience that included schoolchildren. The artistes were supported by traditional indigenous musical instruments.
A discussion was held marking the occasion.
Chairman of Tribal Welfare Association Haluaghat unit Bijoy Mrong was the chief guest.
James Jornesh Chiran, writer Md. Delwar Hossain, Md. Saiful Islam, Dulal Roy and CDSP project manager Atul Sangmaa and managers of different units of Haluaghat addressed the gathering, among others.
Spor John Mree presided over the function conducted by Kallayan Ranser.
The speakers said that today's children will be nation builders tomorrow for which we must nurture them early on.
They also urged the students to safeguard their cultural identity.
Marking International Day for Indigenous People, a day long programme including a discussion, colourful rally and cultural programme were held in Phulpur upazila hall room on Saturday.
Hayatur Rahman Khan, MP; chairman of Phulpur upazila parishad Ataul Karim Russel; UNO ASM Ferdous; AL Phulpur unit secretary Shah Kutub Chowdhury; Phulpur Press Club secretary Md. Nazim Uddin; Sunirmol Mree of Dhakua Dharmapalli; Pradip Chakraborty; Bijoy Kumar Saha; president of Adibasi Unnyan Forum Sudhir Chisim; secretary Rabindra Chandra Biswas and CARITAS official Bipul Jambil addressed the discussion.
A colourful rally marking the occasion was rounded up with a cultural show performed by local indigenous artistes.
