ICRC gives rare 1971 war photos to PM

The Head of Delegation Bangladesh, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Christine Cipolla, met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office yesterday morning.
PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed reporters after the meeting.
He said Cipolla apprised the prime minister of various activities of ICRC in Bangladesh since 1971 including promoting international humanitarian law and restoring links with family members separated by natural disaster or migration.
Recalling with deep gratitude the assistance provided by the government of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after the independence, the ICRC head in Bangladesh said the then government extended huge support to their works during that time.
In this connection, she handed over to the prime minister some rare photographs and documents of the ICRC activities during the war and engagements with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after the independence.
Christine thanked the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for its continued assistance to the ICRC.
In reply, the prime minister hoped that the photographs and documents would help the new generation know the real history of the War of Liberation.
She also thanked the ICRC for its continued assistance in Bangladesh during various natural disasters.
Ambassador-At-Large M Ziauddin, Principal Secretary Shaikh Md Wahid-Uz-Zaman and PMO Secretary Mollah Waheeduzzaman and Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, among others, were present.
