Housewife killed for dowry in Sirajganj

A housewife  was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry at Hawra village in Ullapara upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Merina Parveen, 22, wife of Md Shahin of the village. She was expecting.
Police said, Shahin of Hawra village in Ullapara upazila had married Merina, daughter of Mukter Hossain of Sri Pangasia village in the same upazila, two years ago.
Merina's father gave Shahin Tk 1,75,000 during marriage but Shahin demanded Tk 25,000 more as dowry.
Shahin and his family members used to torture Merina since then as her father failed to pay the money.
At one stage of altercation on Monday, Shahin strangled Marina in the dead of night and hung her body from the ceiling of  the room.
On information, police recovered the body on Tuesday morning and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Officer in-charge of Ullapara police station Biman Kumar Das said none was arrested as family members of the accused fled the house at night.
