Home ministry reviews three new cases
The Monitoring Cell, constituted under the home ministry for quick disposal of sensational murder cases, reviewed three new cases at a meeting here yesterday.
The three cases are: Sonali Bank robbery case at Mohammadpur Jute Research Institute, robbery of Tk 22.68 lakh of Agrani Bank, Amin Court Branch, that took place at Siddeshwari Road, and murder of minor Shahed in Sylhet, a home ministry press release said.
State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar chaired the meeting.
Cabinet Secretary Dr Saadat Hossain, Home Secretary Mohammad Omar Faruq, IGP Modabbir Hossain Chowdhury and other officials of concerned and legal advisors of the government were present at the meeting.
Besides reviewing the progress of the three new cases, 102 other important murder cases were discussed in the meeting.
A total of 165 highly sensational cases of different natures like rape, murder and acid-throwing were listed for quick disposal after the formation of the 11-member Monitoring Cell since its first meeting on April 23 last year.
Earlier, the Cell had disposed of 13 murder cases, namely Rubel murder under Detective Branch (DB) custody, Shihab killing, Indian national Jibran Tayebi murder, Reka mass rape, Simi suicide, Sadia Sultana Trisha killing, four murders including wife of Nurul Islam, Mahima Khatun rape and taking snap of the rape and suicide, Jahanara mass rape, Shipu murder, Ruma rape and taking snap of the rape, minor boy Bappi abduction and killing, and sub-inspector Amjad Hossain killing.
The meeting also discussed different procedural matters for quick disposal of the cases and identified obstacles to quick investigation, attendance of witnesses and timely reporting of the investigation officers at the courts.
