High level panel meeting to set post MDG targets
Recently, 27 global leaders gathered in Bali for a High-Level Panel (HLP) meeting to establish a framework for global development beyond 2015, the target for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). They discussed what the MDGs have achieved, what lessons can be learned from their implementation, and how the world has changed since the MDGs were drafted. The outcomes of this meeting will have serious implications for people around the world, determining the development priorities governments and international agencies pursue for decades to come.
Girls and women in developing countries have the most at stake. The HLP will help determine whether investing in their health, safety, education and empowerment remains a priority — a decision that impacts individuals, families and nations. Beyond 2015 is looking forward to the report of the UN HLP at the end of May 2013.
