HC extends Tarique's bail for 3 months
The High Court yesterday extended bail for BNP leader Tarique Rahman for the next three months in an extortion case and a tax evasion case filed during the last caretaker government.
Earlier, the HC had granted bail to Tarique for six months in the cases, and later extended the order at different times.
Yesterday, a vacation bench extended the bail after hearing two separate petitions.
Tarique, senior vice-chairman of the opposition BNP and son of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia, is accused in 15 criminal cases and now on bail in 12 cases. He is now in London for medical treatment.
On March 27, 2007, businessman Aftabuddin filed the extortion case, and on August 4, 2008, the National Board of Revenue lodged the tax evasion case.
