HC asks govt to explain legality of its action
The High Court yesterday issued rule asking the government to show cause in three weeks why entering the office of Centre for Research and Information (CRI) of Awami League by the security forces, conducting a search and seizing documents without any search warrant should not be declared illegal.
A division bench comprising Justice MA Aziz and Justice Nazrul Islam passed the order.
On October 21, 2002, security forces entered the office of Centre for Research and Information (CRI), searched the office and seized documents and properties and sealed off the office.
Chief advisor of the CRI AMA Muhith filed a writ petition challenging the action of security forces in the office of the centre.
Barrister Rokonuddin Mahmud appeared on behalf of the petitioner while Attorney General AF Hasan Arif stood for the State.
