Hatchery fishes poisoned to death
Fishes worth Tk 40 lakh died as criminals threw poison into the water of several ghers (enclosures) at Pangashia village in Dumki upazila on Saturday.
Over 20 lakh dead fries of 'monosex telapia' at 'Pacific Aqua Firm' 25 hatcheries were found floating in the morning, said locals.
Md Zakir Hossain, owner of the hatchery, said more than five lakh different species of fish including ruhi, katla, carps and pangas were also poisoned to death at midnight.
They may have done it out of jealousy as I have been cultivating fishes here successfully for the last 15 years, he said.
Visiting the spot, Gazi Fazlur Rahman, sub-inspector of Dumki police station, said stern action would be taken against those responsible for the offence after investigating the matter.
