Hasina's birthday today

pm02Today is the 66th anniversary of birth of Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.
The eldest of five children of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she was born on this day in 1947 at Tungipara in Gopalganj.
For being out of the country, she along with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana escaped the bloodbath on August 15, 1975 when his entire family was assassinated by a disgruntled group of army officers.
Hasina was elected the AL president in 1981 while in exile since 1975, and was sworn in as the country's prime minister twice--in 1996 and 2008.
Currently, she is in the United States to attend the 68th UN General Assembly and will return home on September 30. In the US, the premier has been given South South Award for her government's success in alleviating poverty.
The AL, its different associated bodies, like-minded organisations and different other socio-cultural bodies have planned elaborate programmes to celebrate her birthday. She would be presented with flowers at the UN General Assembly on behalf of the AL Central Working Committee (ALCWC) on her birthday, says an AL press release.
Special prayers will be offered at mosques across the country, including the national mosque Baitul Mukarram, seeking blessings for her long life and good health. Special prayer sessions will also be held at other religious institutions around the country.
AL and Bangladesh Chhatra League will distribute food among the orphans and destitute on the day.
AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam urged the party leaders and workers to properly conduct all the programmes marking the occasion.
