Hartal in Ctg, Rajshahi observed peacefully
The half-day hartal enforced by Jamaat-e-Islami in 10 districts -- Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and the eight under Rajshahi division, yesterday passed off peacefully except for a few isolated incidents.
Our Bogra correspondent reports, pickets torched a truck at Silimpur area. Police said a case was filed accusing ten persons, including two television journalists and Shibir's Azizul Haque College unit president.
Pickets also exploded at least four cocktails from a procession on Station road area.
Our Rajshahi correspondent reports, pickets vandalised an auto-rickshaw at Tibipukur in Rajshahi city.
Our Pabna correspondent reports, in Sirajganj, pickets vandalised a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Samaj Kalyan Mor and barricaded Shreekhola Mor of Bogra-Nagarbari highway.
Our Natore correspondent reports, pickets dumped bricks and set fire on the Dhaka-Natore highway at Borohorishpur of Natore in the morning.
The hartal in the eight districts was enforced demanding release of Jamaat's Rajshahi city unit ameer M Abdul Hashem and demanding justice in the killing of Shibir activist Asgar Ali Limon.
Picketing was almost absent in Chittagong and Cox's Bazar districts and no untoward incident was reported, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
Jamaat enforced the hartal protesting arrest of its Chittagong south district unit ameer on Thursday.
