The 36-hour countrywide strike on Tuesday and Wednesday called by the 18-party alliance has forced the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) to reshuffle the venues of the ongoing Bangladesh Games as well as bring the athletes from outside the capital two days before the start of eight disciplines.
Ashikur Rahman Miku, co-chairman of Games Organising Committee and BOA's joint secretary general, informed that events of karate and judo have been shifted to Sohrawardi Indoor Stadium in Mipur from Dhaka University and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan due to strikes.
“Athletes of eight disciplines have started to arrive in the capital and are expected to arrive tonight before the start of strikes. Besides, the athletes will be escorted by police from their accommodation places to the venues,” said Miku after having a meeting with security committee yesterday.
Miku added that enough security measures would be taken over the next two days to ensure the safety of the athletes.
