Govt urged to extend application deadline
Eminent citizens and rights activists yesterday demanded that the government increase by 300 days the time for submission of applications by the affected persons for return of vested property.
In a statement, they said hundred thousands of people from more than half the districts of the country could not submit their applications in time to neither the tribunals nor the committees due to carelessness of land offices and closure of courts last December.
Under the banner “Vested Property Return Act Implementation National Citizen Combination Cell”, they, however, thanked the cabinet for taking decisions to speed up the disposal of such cases.
The cabinet, on Monday, approved a proposal to amend the “Vested Property Return Act-2001” to ensure speedy disposal of cases and petitions on return of vested property.
Kamal Lohani, Advocate Sultana Kamal, Advocate Rana Dasgupta, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Khushi Kabir, Advocate Tobarak Hossain, Barrister Sara Hossain and Dr Abul Barakat, among others, signed the statement.
