Govt allocates Tk 15cr for varsity IT courses
Prof Dr Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, Advisor, National Committee on Software Exports and former Advisor to the caretaker government of Bangladesh, has said the government has allocated Tk 15 crore for five universities of the country to offer one-year post-graduate diploma in IT fields, says a press release.
The universities are BUET, Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Khulna University and Shahjalal Science and Technology University of Sylhet.
Each University will Produce 60 professionals per year, he said.
He was speaking as chief guest at a discussion meeting on "Prospects of developing 1000 Professionals on Information Technology (IT) field by the year 2000 for global markets from amongst the mid and junior level serving engineers of the Govt and autonomous bodies" organised in the city by Bangladesh 2000 in association with ExecuTrain.
Prof Chowdhury said the government was suggested to set up a separate division on IT in the year 1997 to gear up the activities in the relevant fields through the National Committee headed by him. But till now it is to be implemented.
Prof Chowdhury appreciated the role of ExecuTrain in quality training on IT fields and hoped that the young and unemployed engineers in particular can take advantage of this unique training course which is globally accepted.
Presided over by Engr M Shahjahan Khadem, Chairman of Bangladesh 2000, the function was also addressed by Air Commodore M Rafiqul Islam, Managing Director of Bangladesh Biman, Engr Al-haj Md Quadiruzzaman, Chief Engineer, DPHE, Engr Md Monowar Hossain Chowdhury, Chief Engineer, LGED, Prof ABM Siddique Hossain, Director, Computer Centre, BUET, Dr Chowdhury Mofijur Rahman, Chairman, Deptt of Computer Science & Engg, BUET, Dr MA Mottalib, Head, Deptt of Computer Science, IIT, Gaziur, M Jamaluddin, General Manager, Petrobangla, AKM Abu Taher, MN Islam M Muniruzzaman, Advisor, Executive Director and Faculty of ExecuTrain respectively. Engr M Shahjahan Khadem gave a brief resume on the theme of the discussions.
