Govt ad tariff for newspaper raised by 30 pc
The government has raised the advertisement tariff by 30 per cent for the newspaper industry than that of the past regime, an official handout said in the city yesterday, reports BSS.
This was informed at a meeting yesterday between Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria and a delegation of Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Parishad (BSP) in the Ministry's conference room. State Minister for Information Prof Abu Sayeed was present. The BSP President and Editor of the Daily Ajker Kagoj Kazi Shaheed Ahmed led the delegation.
The delegation members proposed enhancing the volume of government advertisement and raising its tariff at the backdrop of increase of production cost in the newspaper industry. They suggested to raise allocation of fund in the budget in this regard, the handout said.
Prof Abu Sayeed said the budgetary allocation for government advertisement has been raised to Tk 17.50 crore from Tk 13 crore in 1995-96 fiscal year. "We are committed towards ensuring proper development of the newspaper industry in Bangladesh," he added.
The delegation included The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, the Bangladesh Observer Editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and The Daily Khabor Editor Mizanur Rahman Mizan.
