Detective Branch (DB) of police rescued at least six girls from the residence of a UP member in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district on Sunday night while they were allegedly being trafficked to India.
Police arrested four wives of Sekendar Ali, a member of Ahmedabad union parishad, in this connection. However, Sekendar managed to flee the scene.
Police said, acting on a tip-off, a DB team raided the house of Sekendar around 9:30pm and rescued the girls who were brought from different districts to the place on promise of giving lucrative jobs in India.
