Gangs of Wasseypur
Plot: An epic gangster story spanning 70 years revolves around a conflict between a Qureishi dacoit chief, Sultan, and his Pathan impersonator, Khan, resulting in Khan's forced exile from Wasseypur.
Review:Anurag Kashyap's epic gangster drama is a film without the usual star cast. Boldly defying the trend of banking on celebrities and item songs to hit big numbers at the box office, this could be a possible turning point in Hindi cinema. It's a stylish, fast-paced and realistic movie that did unexpectedly well commercially. Muslim gangsters' riot over the scanty resources of a tiny mining town is portrayed pragmatically with a modest budget. It reveals a raw, lawless and bloodthirsty side of the country with no morals or guilty consciences, which few in the west will otherwise witness. The film is rich with great life-like acting and captivating cinematography. The director has successfully created a new film language where the mainstream cinema is dominated by 'formula films'. No wonder the critics all over the world appreciated this film so generously.
