French Gala Evening at The Westin

The France-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry held their annual French Gala Evening at the Westin on Saturday, 7 December. Established in Bangladesh in 1996, the Chamber aims to promote trade between France and Bangladesh by providing assistance to the cause.
The evening was a perfect combination of good company, the arts and delectable food. There were musical performances as well as a fashion show, while the attendees took their seats and enjoyed some authentic French cuisine.
Ambassador of France in Bangladesh, His Excellency Michel Trinquier and President of the Chamber Humayun Rashid attended the event, along with fellow noted individuals of the business community and other invited guests. The event was hosted by Dr Rifat Rashid and Ms Anne-Laure Combot.
The evening started with a few words spoken by the Ambassador and the President of the Chamber. This was followed by the beautiful musical renditions of the internationally renowned folk singer, songwriter, composer and flutist, Bari Siddiqui.
The musical performance was followed by a fashion show by none other than the popular fashion designer both at home and abroad, Bibi Russell. Models in colourful outfits filled the stage as well-loved folk songs played in the background.
Bibi Russell's collection included saris, kurtas for both men and women, kameezes, tops, men's shirts and pants. The colour palette for the night was full of bright hues of orange, red, yellow and blue.
The show ended with the models dancing to the beat of a dhol, highlighting the spirit of a “Positive Bangladesh”, which was a refreshing and much-needed reminder in the current climate of the country. Farzana Shakil's Makeover Salon was in charge of the hair and makeup of the models.
Guests thoroughly enjoyed the glimpse into French cuisine with the backdrop of such a laid-back and elegant atmosphere, as French food is not something that is readily available in Dhaka.
The evening was the perfect combination of French and Bangladeshi elements. Business dignitaries commented that they eagerly look forward to more friendships and collaborations between France and Bangladesh in the future.
