Four to die for murder
Four persons have been sentenced to death by a court in Naogaon for killing an elderly person, Baytul Sarder, 70, resident of Hasaigari village of the same district.
The convicts have been identified as Akbar Ali, Afzal Hossain, Abdul Kalam Azad and Moslem Uddin. Moslem Uddin was tried in absentia.
Jainal, another accused in the same case, was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fined Tk 10,000, in default of which, he is to suffer three more years of RI.
After examining the witnesses and evidences, ASM Solaiman, Additional District and Session Judge-2, Naogaon, pronounced the judgement in a jam-packed courtroom yesterday.
The prosecution story in brief is that Akbar Ali, son of the victim, and four of his accomplices killed Baytul Sarder on December 11 as a sequel to previous enmity over land.
Mojibur Rahman, uncle of the victim, lodged a case with Naogaon Sadar Police Station against the five men. After investigating the case, CID police submitted the chargesheet to the court.
APP MG Shahriar conducted the case on behalf of the State while advocates Fazley Rabbi and Afzal Hossain appeared for the accused.
