The Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bangladesh (NCCI) bestowed honorary membership on former Danish Ambassador Svend Olling on June 13 in recognition of his contributions for the development of the chamber.
“Ambassador Svend Olling has not only been the Danish ambassador but a fantastic ambassador for Bangladesh,” NCCI President Shamim Ul Huq.
“His vision and insights will not only be missed by NCCI members, but the entire business community in Bangladesh.”
The chamber's executive committee and members echoed Huq, the chamber said in a statement.
“I am deeply honoured to have received honorary membership of the Nordic Chamber for Commerce and Industry in Bangladesh,” said Olling.
“I witnessed the birth of NCCI in 2010 and have been very impressed by their work ever since,” he said.
“It is a unique chamber in the way it promotes the Nordic model of sustainable business and decent work in Bangladesh. The NCCI also deserves praise for actively encouraging Nordic companies to invest in Bangladesh and for giving guidance to Nordic newcomers.”
He said he feels proud to be associated with a chamber that “in such an excellent way promotes key Nordic values of development and sustainable business”.
Olling has recently finished his term as Danish ambassador to Bangladesh. The honorary membership was awarded at a farewell reception hosted by NCCI in his honour.
“Ambassador Svend Olling has supported NCCI tremendously since its inception and has been an inspiration to all,” said NCCI Founding President Arild Klokkerhaug.
“The ambassador has always promoted Bangladesh as an attractive investment destination for Nordic companies.”
NCCI greatly appreciates the contributions of the Danish ambassador in promoting several cooperation programmes for trade between the two countries during his term of office in Bangladesh, according to the statement.
“The royal Danish embassy has set a glowing example in forging partnerships though the Danida Business Partnerships programme with an objective of reducing poverty by promoting economic growth and social development in Bangladesh.”
Honorary membership is among the highest honours NCCI bestows in recognition of outstanding accomplishments and stature in the community.
People who have made notable contribution to the promotion of trade and commerce between Nordic countries and Bangladesh also receive the membership.
