Forest robbers kidnap 4 shrimp enclosure owners for ransom
Forest robbers kidnapped four shrimp enclosure owners for ransom from Golakhali area of Shyamnagar upazila early yesterday.
The four were identified as Debabrata Mal, 22, Kartik Gayen, 45, Pranab Bishwas, 34 and Jitrendra Mal, 54. All of them from Bhelkhali village of the upazila.
Monoranjan Mondal, father of Debobrata Mondal said all the kidnap victims were staying at their shrimp enclosure to guard those. In the dead of night, armed gang members of Hazrat Bahini and Amir Bahini stormed into the shrimp enclosures and picked them up at gunpoint.
A staff of one of the enclosures said a gang of 15-20 swooped on the farms at about 1:00am.
Later, the robbers contacted the family members over phone and asked them to pay Tk 2 lakh per head for their release within the next three days, otherwise they would be killed and their bodies would be dumped in the river.
Aslam Khan, officer in-charge of Shyamnagar police station said he heard the news of abduction but yet to get any complaint from the family members of the victims.
Meanwhile, at least nine fishermen were injured by robbers at Tagar Char point of River Meghna in Monpura upazila of Bhola on Sunday midnight, reports a correspondent.
Quoting injured fishermen, Gulzar Ahmed, sub inspector and in-charge of Char Nizam police camp, said when 10/12 fishermen were catching fish in the river on Sunday night, a gang of 30/32 robbers, led by notorious Kalam Dakat, swooped on at around 9:00pm.
As the fishermen fled to Janata Bazar area, the robbers opened fired on them injuring Bachchu Majhi, 30, son of Abdul Malek Haji of Dakkhin Sakuchia union under Monpura upazila with bullet.
At that time, the robbers also beat up other fishermen mercilessly, injuring 8 of them.
