Five feared drowned in river

Five people were feared drowned in the River Kazibacha in Jalma ferry ghat area under Batiaghata upazila yesterday morning.
Of the victims, three could be identified as Kefayet Sheikh, 48, Sabur Fakir, 55, of Birat village and Noor Ali, 35, of Talbunia village.
Police and locals said the trawler sank with 40 people onboard, who were going to Sadar upazila for watching a football match, due to strong currents in the river at 10:30am.
Of them, 35 were rescued by the divers of Fire Brigade and Coastguards while the rest went missing, said Enamul Haque, officer in-charge of Batiaghata police station.
The rescue operation was going on till filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday.
