Hefajat-e Islam's chief Shah Ahmed Shafi should be sued for his lewd comments against women, said speakers at a meeting yesterday.
They made the remarks against the backdrop of a video footage of Shafi's sermon, where he likened women to tamarind, which went viral recently.
It is surprising that no case has been filed against the Hefajat chief after the video footage came to the limelight, said Shaheen Anam, executive director of Manusher Jonno Foundation.
“Shafi came up with the hateful campaign against women at a time when they have been demonstrating on the streets demanding capital punishment for the war criminals,” said Sultana Kamal, executive director of Ain o Salish Kendra, referring to Shafi's sermon where he said women should limit their world within four walls.
Social Resistance Committee organised the meeting in the capital's Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh to protest against fundamentalism, racism and patriarchy in society.
