Ershad writes to Hasina, Khaleda

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has written to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia urging them to sit for dialogues to resolve the ongoing political standoff in the country.
Personal staffs of Ershad had dropped the letter for Hasina at the Prime Minister's Office and the one for Khaleda at her Gulshan office Tuesday night, said Ziauddin Ahmed, adviser to the JP chief.
In his letter to the premier, Ershad, also a key leader in the ruling Awami League-led government, urged Hasina to "forget the bitter past" and devise a way out of the deepening crisis.
He expressed concern about the negative impacts of the prevailing political volatility on education, economy and other sectors.
Addressing the premier, Ershad said Bangladesh was passing the darkest hour of politics ever seen since the Liberation War in 1971.
"People's lives have been disrupted, economy crippled while the garments industry, the pillar of the country's economy, is about to collapse. There is no security of people. The education sector has collapsed also while the health sector is not working," reads the letter to the PM.
It says: "Absolute disappointment and anarchy descended on the nation; flourishing of democracy is now a dream. The nation fervently wishes the two leaders sit together."
"Your [Hasina] responsibility is greater. It's high time you took initiatives for [restoring] peace from your position."
He also observed that those who would refuse to sit in dialogues would be detached from the people.
In the letter to BNP chief Khaleda, Ershad asked her to initiate the efforts for dialogues first.
"Let us sit together and find out ways to get rid of the present situation considering peace, the country's economy and the future of democracy. And let this initiative come from you first," reads the letter.
