Ensure law &order during UP polls
Home Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury on Wednesday asked deputy commissioners to ensure law and order during the union parishad elections.
'Call any minister anytime without any hesitation if anybody disturbs law and order in your respective area,' Altaf told them while addressing the DCs Conference at the Secretariat.
He directed the district administrators to take effective measures for holding in a free and fair manner the staggered elections from January 25 to March 16.
He asked the DCs to maintain the law and order situation improved through the army-led combing operation. The joint operation is still going on, but after 85 days of anti-crime drive, it was just reduced in force as law and order marked improvement.
Law and order of the country is now improved to the best level in last 30 years, he said while talking to journalists.
Referring to the cabinet committee on law and order, he said the committee in its several meetings had taken 178 decisions, and 92 of those had already been implemented while 86 were now under implementation.
After assuming power, the government made qualitative change in its plan and management of controlling law and order, he said. Now the state does not patronise any crime and criminals, he added.
State Minister for Home Lutfuzzaman Babor, cabinet secretary Dr Sada't Hossain and home secretary Omar Farook were also present in the conference.
