Dr Jane tells BCAS, Grameen Bank function
The visiting United Nations Messenger of Peace Dr Jane Goodall yesterday stressed the need for raising awareness among the people to ensure world peace and sustainable development by protecting environment.
"Young people with their shining eyes and indomitable spirit with the help of new technologies could find ways to make the world sustainable and raise awareness across the world," she said while delivering a Public Lecture on Environmental Conservation: "Looking Through the Window" here.
The function was organised by Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) and Grameen Bank at ICMA Bhaban in the city. Grameen Bank Managing Director Prof Mohammad Yunus chaired the session while BCAS Executive Director Dr Atiq A Rahman introduced the legendary conservationist.
Dr Jane regretted that over exploitation and over consumption of resources left the world most unsustainable. As a result poor become poorer and rich become richer.
She said air, water, land are becoming more and more polluted while more than 50 chemicals were found in adult human bodies causing various health problem and degrading the physical environment.
The UN Messenger of Peace said if we want to preserve our nature and all the living species on earth we have to dedicate our best efforts collectively not solely depending on the policymakers and politicians.
During her two-hour long deliberation on environmental conservation, awareness and human relationship with all the world's other living species including chimpanzees, mammals, and reptiles.
Dr Jane took the audience to a very different caring and ideal world of absolute peace and harmony.
Dr Yunus said Dr Jane gave voices to the voiceless millions in her life-long battle against unplanned and unsustainable development.
